The November 2nd NHHS Foundation Fall Reception and Auction had a Dessert Dash (Auction) that benefited the performing groups at NHHS. The Dessert Dash raised $800.00 for the Music Department.
Upcoming Events:
The November 17th PAC Fundraiser: The NHHS Music Groups are performing at the PAC Festival.
Pancakes and Performance on December 1st is cancelled. Instead, there will be a fundraiser at the winter concert.
December 18th, Winter Concert. There will be a prize drawing for Holiday Baskets. Tickets for the drawing will be sold at the concert. Susan Everett and Sheryl French will make two of the 5 baskets that are needed. At the concert, each group will play three pieces. All of the groups will perform and Terry Adams will edit the Concert program.
Students are expected to attend the entire concert. All of the students should stay in the House (The PAC Theater) as much as possible, instead of back stage in the green rooms. (Band/orchestra rooms).
The hallway outside of the Band Room has a door that leads directly into the House, and it is suggested that a sign be put on the door asking no one to enter.
Mr. Jackson and Mr. Nolet are looking into visiting the Middle Schools in January to recruit incoming freshman.
Lab Fee. The suggestion was brought to the Music Boosters to have a lab fee that the students pay in the beginning of the semesters.
Trips
January:
Western Washington University has a one day music clinic that that Band and Orchestra can attend in January. WWU Music Professors would be working with the High School Students. Mr. Jackson is looking into this possibility.
February:
Central Washington State University has an Orchestra festival, February 13-14, and a band festival, February 28 – March 1. Mr. Jackson is looking at having the full orchestra attend the orchestra festival and/or the band attending the band festival. It is suggested that the students would leave the school after the freshman block classes are completed, so that they do not miss two of their Freshman Block classes.
Lionel Hampton Jazz Band in February is the last four days of midwinter break. (Thursday to Sunday) Mr. Jackson is planning on taking the Jazz Band to this festival. Joanne Besch will be the Parent Coordinator for this trip. There are not enough students to hire a bus to take the students, so Mr. Jackson is looking into asking parents to drive to this event. If you can help with the driving, please contact Mr. Jackson.
March:
The Solo Ensemble is on March 8th at Roosevelt high School. Students need to prepare now to play at the solo ensemble. Small ensemble and soloists perform classical music at the Metro Solo Ensemble. The sign up is in January. Caryn Hopkins (hopkinsc2001@yahoo.com) is the coordinator for the Solo Ensemble.
April:
Reno Jazz Festival: Mr. Nolet is recruiting a parent to help coordinate this trip for the Vocal Jazz. If you can help, contact Mr. Nolet.
May:
Triple Door, a Jazz club in downtown Seattle, a Spring Fundraiser, where Nathan Hale students perform at a wonderful venue. Mr. Nolet will contact the Triple Door to arrange a date for this performance.
Date TBA:
Ocean Trip to La Push:
Mr. Jackson is planning on taking his students to the ocean to participate with
a cultural exchange.
Class Reports:
The Jazz Band is working on 14 pieces. Concert Band has 24 pieces that they are learning, including the Pep Band songs. The Sports Boosters is hosting a party for the Pep Band, to thank them for supporting NHHS sports. The Orchestra has 11 pieces. Mr Jackson is testing and listening to each student so that he can help each student. It was noted at the meeting that Mr. Jackson is very busy and that he is doing what he can with the time and responsibilities that he has. He cannot do it all.
Mr. Nolet is looking for opportunities for the Choir to sing in the community.
The next meeting is December 12th. Janet Cairns will confirm this with the front office.
